‘Rivers in the sky’ have drenched California, yet even more extreme rains are possible

California-based Behr Bowers Architects modernized the building in 2000, implementing improved film technology and earthquake-proof design cues. Despite being designed and constructed in 1893, the Bradbury Building is one of Los Angeles’ go-to filming locations for scenes requiring a futuristic flair. It exhibits an Italian Renaissance Revival style of architecture and is renowned for its European cathedral-esque atrium.

Neither of these came to pass, but some of their modular ambition lives on in Braunschweig’s 3 x 3-metre spaceframe. The horizontal design of the David Geffen Galleries will place art from all areas of LACMA’s encyclopedic collection on the same level, so that no single culture, tradition, or era is given more stature than any other. This new building will enable a rotating series of exhibitions rather than a fixed presentation of the collection, offering visitors a multitude of avenues to explore our common humanity. Naturally, a walk through Los Angeles architecture history is a walk through the area’s heritage. Pico House was commissioned by California’s last Mexican ruling governor, businessman Pio Pico.

The Roski Vibe

“I really wanted to showcase state-of-the-art technology but in a way that was grounded and spoke to our primitive nature.” Cutting-edge tech from Bang & Olufsen, Lutron, and JoshAI is balanced by curvaceous seating and unique art. Designer Lara Hovanessian packed plenty of bold design elements into the powder room and adjacent lounge. A moody House of Hackney floral wall covering lines the dressing area, which leads to a powder room accented with a Kelly Wearstler’s Graffito II from Walnut Wallpaper. A black-and-white triangular mosaic tile floor by Artistic Tile from Mission Tile West puts a contemporary twist on the classic checkered pattern.

Thibaut wall coverings and fabrics were used for the walls and windows, and the elegant shagreen-covered vanities are accented with gleaming fixtures by P.E. Videla-Juniel and project manager Cheryl Hardy also installed a striking shower clad in herringbone stone tile. Bursts of hot pink and apple green energize Steven Cordrey’s design for the home’s veranda. Hand-beaded light fixtures illuminate the seating areas, which feature tables and chairs from Janus et Cie’s Amalfi Coast outdoor collection.

Brightline West acquired the project in 2019, and company and public officials say it has all required right-of-way and environmental approvals, along with labor agreements. One of the highlights of this project is the building is going to be both an indoor and outdoor classroom for the students. Due to a private event, Ray's and Stark Bar will be closed Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27. The museum will close early at 4 pm on Saturday, including access to outdoor art and the Pritzker Parking Garage.

Whoever came up with the saying “location, location, location” must have been talking about USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Situated in the heart of Los Angeles, the university is near the corporate offices and production facilities of major motion picture, television, and interactive companies. This proximity helps to connect you to awesome internships and allows industry notables to drop in on classes. The school also is notorious for its help-a-fellow-Trojan mindset, allowing students remarkable access to alumni working in the area. Undergraduate programs include animation and digital arts, interactive entertainment, media arts and practice, writing for screen and television, film and television production, and critical studies. CO Architects is nationally recognized for architectural planning, programming and design in the higher education, science and technology, civic and healthcare sectors, and works with leading institutions from coast to coast.

All refund requests must be made via the Print Refund Request form within 3 days of making the print. Bad prints must be turned in to the Digital Output Support Lab Assistant in 235A at the time of request in order to be eligible for a refund. “It means new opportunities … new ways to grow as both a person and an artist you know … this is for VADA but also for school," said student Ofelia Jarabo of Santa Barbara High School. The 1,600 square-foot building will house new equipment including a large format printer, a laser cutter and an industrial sewing machine.

Students must be admitted by both the USC Graduate School and the Roski School of Art and Design. The Graduate School’s general admission requirements include official transcripts of all previous college and university work, and three letters of recommendation from instructors or persons able to comment on the applicant’s creative work and/or scholarly potential. The architectural ensemble, dating back to the 13th century, showcases various styles, including Plateresque and Baroque elements.

The historic Palacio de Mansilla, protected under heritage decrees, is undergoing a rehabilitation project. The renovation includes interior upgrades, structural reinforcements, and the adaptation of spaces for educational purposes, featuring classrooms, workshops, and laboratories across all floors. Additionally, the project encompasses administrative areas, exhibition spaces, and outdoor recreational areas. The purpose of the Fab Lab is to provide students with access to the environment, materials, and advanced technology needed to turn a spark of inspiration into reality.

The school's programs, accredited by the WSCUC and National Association of Schools of Art and Design, include BFA and MFA degrees. Founded in 1994 by Lorcan O’Herlihy, FAIA, LOHA is an award-winning architecture and urban design firm of twenty-five talented designers, with offices in Los Angeles and Detroit. Collectively and collaboratively, driven by O’Herlihy, passion and creative vision, we have built a robust portfolio of work that is rooted in embracing architecture’s role as a catalyst for change. With a conscious understanding that architecture operates within a layered context of political, developmental, environmental, and social structures, LOHA seeks to elevate the human condition via the built environment. We work with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver work ranging from art galleries, bus shelters, and large-scale neighborhood plans, to large mixed-use developments, supportive housing and university residential complexes.

The room’s coffered ceilings were enhanced with a faux-wood decorative painting by Jhon Ardilla. As one of the country’s oldest house and garden tours, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design benefits the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, an all-volunteer organization that contributes to arts and music nonprofits in Southern California. The event draws more than 25,000 guests each year and offers several dining spaces, including Roe Japanese Fusion, the Tudor Rose Bistro, and Wattle & Daub Tavern. The Shops at the Showcase offer an array of merchants, from handmade jewelry to artisanal chocolates, and are also home to the Shops’s Wine & Cheese Bar. But while its sensory stimulation might fuel the creative soul, its neon highs are sobered by rising rents and lack of affordable studio spaces.
